The Personal Touch

Stan Levy, Phil Barone and Bill Drechsel incorporated UNiREC in 1974. They were all teachers in the Newark, New Jersey, Board of Education Recreation Department, with degrees in Recreation, Physical Education and Health Education.

UNiREC began as a corporate picnic planner developing games and activities to enhance the family day at company outings. We assembled a team of enthusiastic and experienced teachers, developed creative and exciting program of field games & activities and provided an abundance of quality prizes. Providing the "best" quickly launched UNiREC, from one picnic in 1974, for the Cross & Shield Activities Club in New York, to a hundred picnics in a few short years. Today we are pleased to coordinate and produce hundreds of events throughout the country.

UNiREC grew not only in the number of picnics, it also grew in scope. Companies requested, and we provided all forms of entertainment; rides; themes; and attractions at the annual company day. To make our picnics unique, we began to devise our own games. A number of our "signature games" include Splat Ball, Australian Trolley, Flickin' Chicken & Spider Ball.

In the eighties, corporations began experiencing major changes and the concept of team builders began to emerge. UNiREC created a variety of team building programs to foster spirit, nurture camaraderie and encourage the concept of working together as a team. We have had the pleasure of coordinating team-building programs throughout the United States. A Photo Scavenger Hunt in historic Charleston, SC; A Team Spirit Games program on the side of a mountain in Jackson Hole, WY; and a Treasure Hunt on the beach in Key Biscayne, FL are a few of our exciting programs and venues.

AWARDS & HONORS

2008- UNiREC is selected for the 2008 Best of West Orange Award in the Entertainers category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA). The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category.

2008- November issue of NJBIZ featured the top Event Planners which has UNiREC listed as #2.

2003- UNiREC won the 2003 NY Metro ISES Big Apple Award for "Best Technical Creativity" for “An Enchanted Holiday.” UNiREC created and produced an interactive holiday event for approximately 3,000 adults and children at the New York offices of Credit Suisse First Boston. We merged the themes of Holiday & Wizards in two buildings and in more than seventeen rooms/areas using maps and costumed performers to guide the way.

1999 - West Orange named UNiREC as the "Business of the Month" in August 1999.

1994/95 - Stan Levy received the MPI "Planner of the Year" Award in 1994-95.
